Happy Valentine’s Day

Valentine's DayHappy Valentine’s Day! I plan on taking some time out of my day to focus on the people I love in my life and express how much I love them.

I plan on giving my husband the extra attention that I should be giving him each and every day. Sometimes I let the craziness of life get in the way of showing him how much I love and appreciate everything he does for me and our girls.

Enjoy your day!

Busy Mom’s Weekly Menu Plan – February 9 – 15

Busy Moms Weekly Meal PlanThis week on Friday, couples will rush out to restaurants to have a hurried meal while they are packed into every square inch of a restaurant because it is Valentine’s Day.  Many restaurants will create menus with more expensive prices, since they know couple will come no matter what.  My husband and I love to go out to dinner but when restaurants are over crowded like this, we just don’t enjoy our meal.  We find that we have a much better time if we go out either the week before or the week after Valentine’s Day.  The restaurants are so much calmer then and you do feel like people are waiting to give your table to the next couple.

So instead of going out, we celebrate Valentine’s Day at home.  On Friday, I plan on putting the kids to bed early (we shall see how that goes) and making a special dinner for just the two of us.  On the menu is broiled salmon with sauteed spinach.  Salmon + a bottle of wine + my husband = a perfect night!

Here is what I plan on making for dinner this week:

Sunday:  Chicken Fajitas with a Yellow Rice.

Meatless Monday:  Vegan Chili.

Tuesday:   Leftovers.

Wednesday:  Sauteed Lemon Chicken with spaghetti and asparagus.

Thursday:   Crock Pot French Dip Sandwiches with Caramelized Onions.

Friday:   Valentine’s Day Dinner, Broiled Salmon with sauteed spinach.

Saturday:  Hamburgers with homemade coleslaw.

Question:  How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Sick Little Munchkin plus a Running Challenge

HandsThis morning I woke up and one of my little munchkins was sick.  She didn’t have a high fever but she just seemed, well, sick.  She has had a cough for a week and it just keeps getting worse.  My husband and I took her to the doctor and she has a pretty bad ear infection.  This is my littlest munchkin who always seems sick.  I really hope the medicines + humidifier + rest will help her get better.

Since we can’t leave the house, we made a Valentine’s Day present for Grandma.  Otherwise we all might have gone a wee bit crazy stuck in the house all day.

We made a heart hand print heart for Grandma.  This project was so incredibly easy to do.  Everything that I needed for this project was in my craft cabinet.  I had a few pieces of red craft paper and some white washable paint that I could use for the hand prints.

Hand prints

I used a paint brush to paint the white paint onto the kids hands.  My little kids go to daycare and preschool, it is so cute that they know exactly what to do for a hand print project.  Put your hand out please and get ready for paint.

Hand PrintsAfter the paint dried, I wrote ‘Happy Valentine’s Day 2014’ underneath their hand prints.  I found a couple picture frames upstairs in the attic that I thought looked pretty good with the hand prints.

In under 30 minutes, we have a perfect present for Grandma’s wall.

Challenge –  Run 1 Mile

I am always trying to be a runner.  I would love to be able to run just a few miles in a row but I just can’t do it.  I don’t know if it’s that I am not built for running or I just am training wrong but I can’t seem to run jog for a long distance.  The most I have ever jogged is about 1 mile without stopping.  And that was after months and months of running 10 minutes, walking 5 minutes, running 10 minutes and so on until I made my way up to jogging for 20 minutes.

So when I saw that Tina over at Carrots ‘N Cake was having a challenge to run one mile.  I thought this would be a great challenge for me.  I am only a beginner at running, so my goal is to run 1 mile at the end of the week without stopping.  I am going to try to get on the treadmill every night this week to be able to accomplish this goal.

Tonight I was able to run 1 mile with 2 walking breaks.

I hope you are able to join me this week for this challenge.

Question:  Do you have a strategy to be able to run faster and further?

Happy Valentine’s Day

Valentines Day

I don’t usually put up Valentine’s Day decorations but when I took my Christmas decorations down the whole house almost looked naked!  Since I will use almost any excuse to break out the glue gun and craft paint, I decided to make some decorations this year.  I didn’t want to break the bank, so I picked most of my pieces from Michaels Craft Store (you can’t beat a 40% coupon) and the dollar store.

Valentines Day

Our mantel has a huge mirror above it.  For a long time I couldn’t figure out how to add a decoration to it until I realized I could use a command hook that is applied to the mirror with an adhesive strip. I made a pretty red wreath using paper roses to hang from the hook.  I made the roses using craft paper then I hot glued them onto a green floral wreath that I painted a light pink just in case the color of the wreath showed through.

Valentines Day Letters

I also found some fun wooden letters at the dollar store in my town.  I painted them a light pink and white using craft paint.  I was able to use left over paint that I had, and the letters were a $1 a piece.   They are so cute and were so easy to do!

Painted Valentines Day Hearts

This mirror in my dining room is so so plain. (It’s going to have to go soon.)  I decided to add some painted hearts to dress it up a bit.  The hearts are just paper hearts from Michaels that I painted red, pink, and white.  (Don’t forget to paint the back)  I hot glued a piece of ribbon to the back of each of the hearts so that I could hang them from the back of the mirror.

Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day?
